An important part of operations at IEI
Collaboration also contributes to societal development and leads to utilisation and added value, in which the parties together find solutions, develop products and add to knowledge. Knowledge created by research and education is brought to utilisation together with the society around us.
Collaboration has been a fundamental part of IEI operations since the department was formed in 2007. Several divisions and educational programmes have collaborated with the society around us for significantly longer. Forty years ago, LiU was the first in Sweden to offer the new master’s programme in industrial engineering and management, created in collaboration with the business world. More recently, the Energy – Environment – Management master’s programme has been created in a similar manner.
Collaboration and utilisation
Collaboration takes many forms within the department, and many types of actor are involved. IEI has a broad definition of collaboration, which makes it easy to find suitable forms for different ideas. Hundreds of projects are carried out every year together with companies, county councils, municipalities, government agencies, and other local, region and global organisations.
Collaboration at IEI is intended to promote a mutual exchange of knowledge that leads to utilisation in society and improvements in the quality of research and education.
Examples of forms of collaboration at IEI:
Undergraduate projects, research close to companies and organisations, project courses, thesis work and practical work, scholarships, acting as employment broker, labour market fairs, study visits, seminars, joint research, research finance, investment in research equipment, exchange of knowledge and expertise, industry-based doctoral students, adjunct professorships and adjunct teaching positions.
